Sir,

I read with great interest the article entitled, "Ingested metallic foreign body lodged in the appendix". [1] It is really an interesting and unusual case. Authors had performed laparotomy for the removal of foreign body. I would like to state here that surgery was the traditional treatment and probably represent over treatment for such condition now a days. Advancement in the technology and skill of endoscopists made it possible to remove it endoscopically. [2] A 100 year review of the literature for impacted foreign bodies within the appendix showed that colonoscopic removal is indicated if anatomical location of the object is in the right lower quadrant. [3] If this is unsuccessful, laparoscopy along with fluoroscopic guidance should be performed to localize and remove the foreign body. [3] Colonoscopy is a safe and an effective method for the removal of foreign bodies in the appendix. [4]
