First edition

Surveys indicate that a large number of children in India are sexually abused by known persons such as relatives, neighbors, at school, and in residential facilities for vulnerable children. This is particularly relevant to children who are developmentally challenged and children with sexual precocity. Recently, instances of child sex abuse in schools have been nationally highlighted.

The government has failed to prevent much of the child sexual abuse from taking place. In addition, the existing systems of child protection and the stakeholders involved including police, lawyers, media, teachers, parents, etc. are simply not doing enough to help victims or to ensure that perpetrators are punished.

Most cases go unreported. Poor awareness, social stigma, and negligence remain attached to the issue. There is a culture of silence around it.

This monograph will explode the silence and spread awareness among parents and caregivers of the menace that hovers over their children. An extraordinarily lucid graphic presentation of the problem of child sex abuse, recognition, and prevention remedies will help educate and empower the caregivers involved in child care. The author has to be congratulated for her insight and passion.

It is imperative that we unite to empower our children and liberate them from the shackles of abuse.

I unequivocally endorse this document as a flagship publication, which will help our entire society.
