"Change is the only constant in life." From this issue of our Journal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons , a new editorial team has taken charge of the affairs of the journal. I am personally overwhelmed by the responsibility entrusted by the elite members of the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons and sincerely grateful to them. Prof. D. K. Gupta and his editorial team have done an excellent job while holding this responsibility to improve the quality of the journal. I place on record my sincere appreciation of their work. In fact, the articles in this issue and the next issue were being handled by the previous editorial team through most of the stages. I am grateful to Medknow Publications for their continuing association with us for the quality and timely publication of the journal.

Our short-term goal is recognition by the Index Medicus. To achieve this, we have to improve the scientific content. There is an urgent need to strengthen our original articles and reduce exposure to case reports. The logistics of publication are not a problem. We shall strictly adhere to the universally accepted peer review process. I seek the help from all the members of our Association, readers and friends for this purpose.

We pediatric surgeons in India are fortunate to the extent that we have plenty of clinical material unlike some of the Western countries, and we should channelize our energies to tap this potential for clinical research. We can easily surpass the Western models in this aspect. Our children require treatment modalities that suit our socioeconomic circumstances broadly. Quality-of-life parameters as perceived in the developing countries need to be given a serious thought. We need to improve our data collection, storage, retrieval and analysis methodologies. Needless to say, we are all busy with clinical work and surgeries, but we have to think, document, and publish! We can easily hope to become leaders in publications relevant to clinical practice, given the vastness of our resources.

Dr. K. L. Narasimhan, our Editorial Secretary, has many new suggestions for the forthcoming issues. Themes like practitioners' corner, management of cases with complications, trainees' corner, trainees' viewpoint, X-ray/picture of the month, reimbursement of secretarial expenses to authors of original articles accepted for publication are some of them.

Our journal is predominantly distributed free-of-cost to all our members. With a steep rise in publishing costs, finances are a problem for the journal. I shall discuss with the Executive Committee of our Association and try to find solutions. The new editorial team would do its best to live up to the expectations of the Association.
