It gives me a great pleasure in writing this editorial for our Journal. After I took over as the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (JIAPS) in 2012, I wrote an editorial in Jan-March issue, 2013. I am going to finish my tenure as Editor-in-Chief in September, 2017, and this year, we are going to have our National Conference in Kolkata. The last National Conference of IAPS in Kolkata was held in 1999 and incidentally I was the organizing secretary of that meeting. I had the privilege to serve our association as honorary secretary, president, and then the editor-in-chief of our prestigious Journal. I express my sincerest thanks to my predecessors Dr. Subir Kumar Chatterjee, Dr. Devendra Kumar Gupta, and Dr. K L N Rao for their contribution for the Journal. I also welcome Dr. Ashok Kumar Basu who is going to take over from me as the next Editor-in-Chief. Dr. Basu is associated with editorial activities since the time of inception of the Journal and I wish him a great success.

In this write-up, I would like to share some informations related to our Journal and some of my thoughts. Our publication is managed by Medknow and Wolters Kluwer who are doing an excellent job in running the Journal.

JIAPS is now registered with the following abstracting partners: Baidu Scholar, EBSCO Publishing's Electronic Databases, China National Knowledge infrastructure, Ex Libris-Primo Central, Google Scholar, Hinari, Infotrieve, National Science Library, Pro Quest, and Td Net.

The Journal is indexed with, or included, the following: DOAJ (Directory of open access journals), Indian Science Abstracts, Ind Med, PubMed Central, SCImago, Journal Ranking, and SCOPUS.

JIAPS is a free access Journal. We are publishing articles free of cost. Even color figures are printed free. There was a suggestion from the publishing house about charging processing fees and for printing color figures. The letter was circulated to editorial board members but no decision was taken because of mixed response. The matter is important and may be discussed in the general body meeting of IAPS.

Our publisher has applied for Science Citation Index and we are waiting for the decision.

There is a steady increase in the citation of published articles in JIAPS. [Figure 1] and [Figure 2] depict some idea about the status of papers received, published, and rejected. Our editorial team made every effort to make the Journal better, but page limitations and finance of the journal are two important factors influencing the growth of the Journal. Like other growing journals, we are facing problems of plagiarism. This issue is going to have a short editorial write-up on plagiarism, and I am sure our members as well as reviewers will be more cautious about plagiarism.

I have discussed with the editorial board members and advisors of JIAPS. We have got a regular submission of more original articles. In the last 5 years, there is an increase in the number of original articles as well as high-quality review articles. We published some theme-based issues also such as hepatobiliary, urology, minimally invasive surgery, esophagus, oncology, and ano-rectal malformations, and the issues were highly appreciated by the members. We are having four issues per year now. Our aim should be to publish six issues per year with more number of original and research articles.

The job of editor-in-chief of a national association's journal is time-consuming but gives opportunity to gain vast experience in the subject. I am grateful to our editorial secretaries, editorial board members (national and international), and advisors for their great help. Our reviewers are doing an excellent job and I express my sincerest thanks to them. IAPS office bearers, both past and present, were very helpful to me and I am grateful to all of them. My write-up will remain incomplete without giving thanks to my wife who has helped me throughout this period.

I hope our Journal will reach a greater height in the near future with more number of issues and more scientific value.
