It gives me immense pleasure in writing this editorial. This is the third issue after I took over as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (JIAPS). I am grateful to Prof. K L N Rao, Dr. Ravi Kanojia, and their team for their continuous support. The executive committee of the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (IAPS) is very cooperative in the progress of our Journal. The issues are being published on time. Papers for the next issue are also selected and are in the final phase. I am happy to inform our members that we are receiving good number of quality papers. Total number of journal copies printed is 930 per issue. Like many other journals, the IAPS journal is also facing a financial challenge. There is no revenue from advertisements in the previous issues. There was a decision in the annual general body meeting (AGM) during the World Congress in New Delhi that each member will contribute annually (amount will be decided by the IAPS and will change as and when necessary) but the response for contribution was poor. This issue was raised again in the Bhopal AGM. Our journal is the academic mouth piece of our association. It would be nice if the editorial board looks after the academic part only and the parent body looks after the financial part. Transfer of funds from IAPS to JIAPS can be avoided and we can have a single audit and income tax (IT) return. In this context I would like to mention that several medical journals have become only online journals because of financial crisis. We are fortunate to have a print journal. As per the World Health Organization Health Internet Network Access to Research Initiative, an increasing number of medical journals are allowing free web-based access and I am proud that JIAPS is also an open access journal.

Our next National conference will be held in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. I will request all the authors, whose papers will be accepted by the scientific committee of IAPS, to send their write up as per the JIAPS guidelines. We want to bring out a separate conference issue for JIAPS.
